The approaches will be critically analysed, with a view to providing advice on the development of scales used in surveys and the development and deployment and running of a successful experimental study. The studies have been selected to provide examples from the Global North and South, a range of participant ages and a range of participant numbers, giving a broad overview of research in these areas. The chapter first addresses surveys and scales as these are frequently incorporated into experimental studies.
