Abstract: This chapter starts off with an overview of the detrimental impact sensory dysfunction can have on people living with dementia. This is followed by how this affects a person’s everyday life and how they interaction with their environments. The following sections provide in-depth analysis and solutions related to the design of supportive and appropriate environments and 'SMART' technologies for people living with dementia (home and outdoors/public spaces). This is followed by sections on challenges in this area and potential solutions. The importance of co-production is emphasised and better ways of ensuring technology adoption and 'fitness for purpose' are then discussed (e.g. testing, evaluation and implementation).
