Abstract: This chapter considers both the inclusionary and exclusionary aspects of national identity, through a focus on the exceptional year of 2020 and the global effects of the Covid-19 pandemic. This moment brought many key concepts in human geography sharply into focus, including borders, community, citizenship, authority, racism, and power, and we discuss these in the chapter. Overall, we show that there are many different forms of nationalism, and we also incorporate debates about devolution and governance.
