| Abstract: |
This chapter examines the contemporary rise of nationalism around the world. It argues that nationalism and populism fundamentally revolve around contestations over the people and boundaries of inclusion and exclusion. This discussion is grounded in examples like Brexit and the aftermath of 9/11 to illustrate how narratives of national unity exclude and produce forms of hostility and discrimination. It concludes by exploring alternative models of political collectivity that center and rework notions of diversity and pluralism. |
