Abstract: |
The food system is critical to our success in addressing climate change and ensuring the wellbeing of Wales. Our land and marine environments are unique in being able to address climate change by removing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. However, they are also highly vulnerable to the impacts of a changing climate and the way we produce our food, while also contributing to emissions. We have tackled this challenge through the lens of the Well-being of Future Generations (Wales) Act 2015. Therefore, we have sought to address related issues such as public health, the affordability of food, food security, nature loss and rural prosperity. This has been informed by a process of openengagement with stakeholders across the food system in Wales. The pathways outlined in this report will help take Wales towards a place where:a) Support is in place for farmers in Wales to embrace low carbon and nature positive farming;b) There are vibrant markets for local, affordable, nutritional, and sustainable food.c) All people in Wales have access to a healthy, affordable, and sustainable diet, resulting in reduced health inequalities.d) Our food supplies and natural environment are more resilient to a changing climate. |
