| Abstract: |
This paper draws from the findings of a participatory action research and practice development project led by Swansea University, regarding the use of evidence in practice in health and social care services with older people in Wales and Scotland. The project ran in partnership with Joseph Rowntree Foundation using research evidence from their 'A Better Life' programme. A key finding of the project was the prevalence of defict-based and risk-averse practice regarding the care and support of older people with dementia, which undermined both their personhood and citizenship. This paper explores some of the implications of this in practice and puts forward some recommendations to improve practice in health and social care services. |
