The aim of the chapter was to explore the possible dialogue between culture and regulation as explanatory variables for digital divides in relation to Internet adoption in Greece. Scant literature exists on the dialogue between the user and decision-makers in the information society. However, this chapter perceives digital divides as being influenced by both socio-cultural and decision-making elements in the field. First, the chapter presents the grounds on which the case of Greek divides was selected, while then the literature in the field is discussed. Finally it introduces a case-focused discussion of the possible ways in which Greek culture interacts with Internet regulation, influencing the adoption of the Internet in Greece and challenging the dominant discourses on digital divides. |
