It will determine the factors that influence the decision to undergo or to decline surgery for both patients and clinicians. The aim of this research is to produce a validated Patient Decision Aid (PtDA) for patients with LARC and LRRC to facilitate the shared decision making (SDM) process. Objectives1.To undertake a systematic literature review to identify existing validated PtDAs and grey literature including online forums for PE.2.To explore whether English patient information leaflets (PILs) exist at centres worldwide performing exenterative surgery.3.To explore through qualitative interviews patient views regarding what factors are important to them when making decisions regarding PE surgery.4.To explore through qualitative interviews with clinicians their views regarding what they perceive to be important for the patient to consider when making decisions regarding PE surgery.5.To use the findings from the literature review and qualitative interviews to inform the first stage development of a PtDA that outlines treatment options for patients with LARC or LRRC.6.To develop the PtDA using key stakeholders.7.To assess the content and face validity of the PtDA.8.To assess the reliability and validity of the PtDA.9.To assess the feasibility and efficacy of the PtDA.
<type>E-Thesis</type><journal/><volume/><journalNumber/><paginationStart/><paginationEnd/><publisher/><placeOfPublication>Swansea, Wales, UK</placeOfPublication><isbnPrint/><isbnElectronic/><issnPrint/><issnElectronic/><keywords>Pelvic Exenteration, Locally Advanced Rectal Cancer, Locally Recurrent Rectal Cancer, Decision Making, Patient Decision Aid</keywords><publishedDay>27</publishedDay><publishedMonth>2</publishedMonth><publishedYear>2025</publishedYear><publishedDate>2025-02-27</publishedDate><doi>10.23889/SUthesis.69068</doi><url/><notes/><college>COLLEGE NANME</college><CollegeCode>COLLEGE CODE</CollegeCode><institution>Swansea University</institution><supervisor>Hutchings, Hayley; Harries, Dean ; Harji, Deena ; Evans, Martyn</supervisor><degreelevel>Doctoral</degreelevel><degreename>Ph.D</degreename><degreesponsorsfunders>Bowel research UK and Pathway to Portfolio Scheme</degreesponsorsfunders><apcterm/><funders>Bowel research UK and Pathway to Portfolio Scheme</funders><projectreference/><lastEdited>2025-03-07T16:34:16.2598111</lastEdited><Created>2025-03-07T15:50:08.0124367</Created><path><level id="1">Faculty of Medicine, Health and Life Sciences</level><level id="2">Swansea University Medical School - Biomedical Science</level></path><authors><author><firstname>ELEANOR</firstname><surname>WILLIAMS</surname><order>1</order></author></authors><documents><document><filename>69068__33769__82c6bdc3ddcd41289d316dcbbbb6581f.pdf</filename><originalFilename>Williams_Eleanor_PhD_Thesis_Final_Cronfa.pdf</originalFilename><uploaded>2025-03-07T16:30:28.1054722</uploaded><type>Output</type><contentLength>11740671</contentLength><contentType>application/pdf</contentType><version>E-Thesis &#x2013; open access</version><cronfaStatus>true</cronfaStatus><documentNotes>Copyright: The Author, Eleanor Anwen Williams, 2025.</documentNotes><copyrightCorrect>true</copyrightCorrect><language>eng</language></document></documents><OutputDurs/></rfc1807>
