Abstract: |
The purpose of this study is to explore the extent to which Attention-Deficit/ Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) affects entrepreneurial orientation and intentions. Entrepreneurial invention and orientation are affected by neurological conditions, specifically, those diagnosed with ADHD.Recent studies have highlighted a positive association between ADHD behaviours and entrepreneurial intentions and orientation. Historically, ADHD has been viewed negatively, particularly in the employment sector, where adults with ADHD often struggle with job retention and performance. This paper reviews empirical studies showing a relationship between ADHD and Entrepreneurial Intentions (EI) and between the hyperactivity/impulsivity facet of ADHD and Entrepreneurial Orientation (EO). The recent qualitative data goes beyond anecdotal evidence and supports the positive association between ADHD and entrepreneurship. These findings suggest numerous implications, including potential areas for future research on constructively channelling ADHD symptoms and identifying individuals well-suited to entrepreneurship. The paper also offers recommendations for future research and practical applications of the current data. Keywords: ADHD, Entrepreneurship, Entrepreneurial Intentions (EI), Entrepreneurial Orientation (EO), and Hyperactivity/Impulsivity |
