Despite the growth in research initiatives and awareness of pharmacogenomics, healthcare professionals continue to report a lack of knowledge and confidence in practicing pharmacogenomics. This study aims to assess the current pharmacogenomics knowledge gaps and learning needs of healthcare professionals in Malaysia. A modified Delphi with a multidisciplinary expert panel was conducted, and a purposive sampling method was used with predefined selection criteria. Fourteen study sites in Malaysia were included. The cut-off value to approach consensus was predefined as a threshold of 60% or higher, and a quantitative descriptive statistical analysis was performed. The study demonstrated that all experts rated the suggested educational content components as essential/important to be included in the educational intervention. Additionally, experts highlighted the significant barriers and gaps to adopting and practicing pharmacogenomics. To conclude, this multisite Delphi study enabled the development of a tailored, effective, evidence-based, competency-based educational intervention in pharmacogenomics for healthcare professionals in Malaysia. To keep up with the rapid evolution of the pharmacogenomics field, healthcare professionals should be equipped with the necessary competencies required to practice pharmacogenomics for better health outcomes. Future research is needed to determine the feasibility of the proposed educational intervention.
<type>Journal Article</type><journal>Clinical and Translational Science</journal><volume>17</volume><journalNumber>11</journalNumber><paginationStart/><paginationEnd/><publisher>Wiley</publisher><placeOfPublication/><isbnPrint/><isbnElectronic/><issnPrint>1752-8054</issnPrint><issnElectronic>1752-8062</issnElectronic><keywords/><publishedDay>11</publishedDay><publishedMonth>11</publishedMonth><publishedYear>2024</publishedYear><publishedDate>2024-11-11</publishedDate><doi>10.1111/cts.70057</doi><url/><notes/><college>COLLEGE NANME</college><department>Medical School</department><CollegeCode>COLLEGE CODE</CollegeCode><DepartmentCode>MEDS</DepartmentCode><institution>Swansea University</institution><apcterm>Another institution paid the OA fee</apcterm><funders>No funding was received for this work.</funders><projectreference/><lastEdited>2025-01-15T11:31:56.1744341</lastEdited><Created>2024-11-17T17:33:57.6169978</Created><path><level id="1">Faculty of Medicine, Health and Life Sciences</level><level id="2">Swansea University Medical School - Pharmacy</level></path><authors><author><firstname>Safa</firstname><surname>Omran</surname><orcid>0000-0003-4097-5577</orcid><order>1</order></author><author><firstname>Siew Lian</firstname><surname>Leong</surname><orcid>0000-0002-2254-9358</orcid><order>2</order></author><author><firstname>Ali</firstname><surname>Blebil</surname><orcid>0000-0002-7480-1260</orcid><order>3</order></author><author><firstname>Devi</firstname><surname>Mohan</surname><orcid>0000-0002-0898-2729</orcid><order>4</order></author><author><firstname>Wei Chern</firstname><surname>Ang</surname><orcid>0000-0002-6599-3301</orcid><order>5</order></author><author><firstname>Siew Li</firstname><surname>Teoh</surname><orcid>0000-0003-4163-7895</orcid><order>6</order></author></authors><documents><document><filename>68282__33331__7dada4ac4f554c7abbc49deab051faf5.pdf</filename><originalFilename>68282.VoR.pdf</originalFilename><uploaded>2025-01-15T11:29:22.0767425</uploaded><type>Output</type><contentLength>347984</contentLength><contentType>application/pdf</contentType><version>Version of Record</version><cronfaStatus>true</cronfaStatus><documentNotes>&#xA9; 2024 The Author(s).
