This paper aims to evaluate the Care Home Education Facilitator Role introduced in one area of Wales, United Kingdom, and to report on the outcomes achieved from this novel role. Methods: Semi-structured interviews were undertaken with key stakeholders including the Care Home Education Facilitator postholder leading the pilot, care home managers, higher education institutions' placement managers/coordinators, student nurses and national health service staff. Results: Five key areas were identified, which included timing of introducing the post and establishing a clear rationale and understanding of the intention of the role. The benefits, challenges and suggested improvements to the Care Home Education Facilitator initiative are provided. Conclusion: Introducing the role of the Care Home Education Facilitator to work closely with key stakeholders resulted in increased placements for student nurses, but investing time in developing relationships with these stakeholders was critical to the success of the role.
<type>Journal Article</type><journal>International Journal of Nursing Practice</journal><volume>30</volume><journalNumber>4</journalNumber><paginationStart/><paginationEnd/><publisher>Wiley</publisher><placeOfPublication/><isbnPrint/><isbnElectronic/><issnPrint>1322-7114</issnPrint><issnElectronic>1440-172X</issnElectronic><keywords>Community care, education, health and social care, nursing, placements, students</keywords><publishedDay>1</publishedDay><publishedMonth>8</publishedMonth><publishedYear>2024</publishedYear><publishedDate>2024-08-01</publishedDate><doi>10.1111/ijn.13242</doi><url/><notes/><college>COLLEGE NANME</college><CollegeCode>COLLEGE CODE</CollegeCode><institution>Swansea University</institution><apcterm>SU Library paid the OA fee (TA Institutional Deal)</apcterm><funders>Swansea University</funders><projectreference/><lastEdited>2024-10-01T11:26:11.9118274</lastEdited><Created>2024-01-29T20:13:49.8407604</Created><path><level id="1">Faculty of Medicine, Health and Life Sciences</level><level id="2">School of Health and Social Care - Public Health</level></path><authors><author><firstname>Sharon</firstname><surname>Williams</surname><order>1</order></author><author><firstname>Lynne</firstname><surname>Caley</surname><order>2</order></author><author><firstname>Sarah</firstname><surname>Kingdom‐Mills</surname><order>3</order></author><author><firstname>Simon</firstname><surname>Cassidy</surname><order>4</order></author><author><firstname>Lesley</firstname><surname>Jones</surname><order>5</order></author></authors><documents><document><filename>65534__29736__7bc5212ff8e24f9db928d530828e1d91.pdf</filename><originalFilename>65534.VOR.pdf</originalFilename><uploaded>2024-03-18T13:11:38.4123178</uploaded><type>Output</type><contentLength>1483535</contentLength><contentType>application/pdf</contentType><version>Version of Record</version><cronfaStatus>true</cronfaStatus><documentNotes>© 2024 The Authors.
