(Impact Factor 2012: 1.941, Citations: 5) This single-author paper makes a vital contribution to the understanding of abradable systems, reporting work on commercially available materials from Sulzer Metco; systems currently used in gas turbines without a fundamental understanding of their mechanical behaviour. This is the first time in-depth data on such materials has been published. The research investigates the tensile behaviour of three critical systems, proposing possible failure mechanisms. This research was supported by the DTI/TSB MACE programme (TP/2/ET/6/I/10037), collaborating with Rolls-Royce, Sulzer Metco, Cranfield and Cambridge Universities. The publication led to further funding via EPSRC for a fully-funded PhD. |
