Item Description: The papers reports a first proof-of-concept demonstration of single-fibre bidirectional WDM ring network architecture using optical gain clamped Erbium-doped waveguide amplifier (OGC-EDWA) immune to transients thanks to excellent properties in the bidirectional mode operation of the waveguide amplifiers and a careful network design. This allows cost effectiveness, flexible traffic re-routing, and easy network reconfiguration. Moreover, it proves that EDWA technology is now fully mature for field application bringing all its advantages such as small footprints, low mass production cost, and capability to integrate with OGC functions on the same active chip. This work is a spin-off the filled patent (WO/2007/025929).
