Item Description: Published in a leading international journal (IF: 2.0. Citations 1), this paper stems from a privately funded collaboration with Rolls-Royce investigating the effect of prior prestrain on the fatigue properties of a titanium alloy. The work offers an important insight into variability in fatigue performance which may occur due to non-optimised processing techniques, when ‘virgin’ material is often considered to provide performance above critical minimum properties (Advocate, david.rugg@rolls-royce.com). The impact of the paper led to the submission of an invited book chapter (Titanium in the Gas Turbine Engine, Gas Turbines, Ed. E Benini, ISBN 978-953-307-611-9).
