Abstract: |
This poster introduces the emerging changes to science and technology education in Wales, as part of major school (K-12) curriculum and qualifications reform. The new bilingual Curriculum for Wales, published in January 2020 and set to phase in from September 2022, features significant changes to the discipline of computer science as part of a new Science & Technology "area of learning and experience", alongside the repositioning of digital competence as a statutory cross-curricular skill for all learners aged 3-16. We introduce some of the key features of the new Curriculum for Wales, its underlying rationale and wider policy context, as well as what this means for K-12 computer science education, pedagogy and practice in Wales over the coming years. |
