It introduces a new paradigm for constitutive description of complex heterogeneous bio-materials, which relies on physically based microstructural characterization of material constituents, rather than on widely employed empirical constitutive models. The research was undertaken in collaboration with Professor R. Feijoo, based in National Laboratory for Computational Mechanics, Brazil.
