Crack configuration factors (essential data for life prediction methods) are presented for a range of cases. A novel predictive equation, which has applications across a broad parametric range, is presented. The information in the paper is of particular relevance to the aerospace and power generation industries, where crack growth in turbine discs rotating at very high speed is a real problem with potentially catastrophic consequences.
