The CV Clinic was a pilot program consisting of resources to assist with developing an effective CV and involving preconference and at-conference reviews of student attendees' CVs. Here, we explore our experiences in organizing the CV Clinic as well as nonparticipant and participant perceptions of the clinic. We used an online standardized interview form to gather qualitative data on nonparticipant and participant perceptions of the CV Clinic, and to explore how such a CV Clinic program could best align with student needs. Most respondents who submitted their CV for review ahead of ICCB 2017 (n = 9) found the template and guidance useful. Half of the respondents who did not participate in the CV Clinic perceived the clinic as duplicating services provided by their academic institutions. Both participant and nonparticipant respondents perceived value in such a CV Clinic, but also believed that adjustments could be made to make the CV review part of a broader professional development program lead by Society for Conservation Biology (SCB). Key lessons learned from the CV Clinic include the need to: (a) document and evaluate professional development initiatives within SCB; (b) better understand and account for the diversity of student needs before program creation; and (c) pilot and evaluate appropriateness of different locations, frequency, and duration of professional development programs.
<type>Journal Article</type><journal>Conservation Science and Practice</journal><volume>1</volume><journalNumber>6</journalNumber><paginationStart>e37</paginationStart><publisher/><issnPrint>2578-4854</issnPrint><issnElectronic>2578-4854</issnElectronic><keywords/><publishedDay>30</publishedDay><publishedMonth>6</publishedMonth><publishedYear>2019</publishedYear><publishedDate>2019-06-30</publishedDate><doi>10.1111/csp2.37</doi><url/><notes/><college>COLLEGE NANME</college><department>Science and Engineering - Faculty</department><CollegeCode>COLLEGE CODE</CollegeCode><DepartmentCode>FGSEN</DepartmentCode><institution>Swansea University</institution><apcterm/><lastEdited>2019-05-28T15:30:24.4321971</lastEdited><Created>2019-05-12T21:55:38.4721390</Created><path><level id="1">Faculty of Science and Engineering</level><level id="2">School of Biosciences, Geography and Physics - Biosciences</level></path><authors><author><firstname>Stephanie R.</firstname><surname>Januchowski&#x2010;Hartley</surname><order>1</order></author><author><firstname>Sukhmani K.</firstname><surname>Mantel</surname><order>2</order></author><author><firstname>Helen M.</firstname><surname>Barber&#x2010;James</surname><order>3</order></author><author><firstname>Jorge</firstname><surname>Celi</surname><order>4</order></author><author><firstname>Julian D.</firstname><surname>Olden</surname><order>5</order></author><author><firstname>John J.</firstname><surname>Piccolo</surname><order>6</order></author><author><firstname>Virgilio</firstname><surname>Hermoso</surname><order>7</order></author><author><firstname>Stephanie</firstname><surname>Januchowski-Hartley</surname><order>8</order></author></authors><documents><document><filename>0050318-28052019152932.pdf</filename><originalFilename>50318.pdf</originalFilename><uploaded>2019-05-28T15:29:32.5330000</uploaded><type>Output</type><contentLength>862567</contentLength><contentType>application/pdf</contentType><version>Version of Record</version><cronfaStatus>true</cronfaStatus><embargoDate>2019-05-27T00:00:00.0000000</embargoDate><documentNotes>Released under the terms of a Creative Commons Attribution License (CC-BY).</documentNotes><copyrightCorrect>true</copyrightCorrect><language>eng</language></document></documents><OutputDurs/></rfc1807>
