Abstract: The paper explores the issues of social and labour market integration of Eastern European migrants in Scotland and Portugal. It draws on the quantitative and qualitative data to explore the links between measures of labour market succcess and migrant integration into host countries. It highlights the importance of proficiency in the host country’s language, maintaining family links and cultural identity in social integration, but uestions whether these factors influences success in migrants' employment. Focus on the immediate earnings and having a job tends to be prioritised over career progression, which can lead to better integration.
