Subject Librarians at Swansea University saw over 13,000 students during the academic year 2016-17, delivering 658 classes and over 1200 one to one appointments. Over 1800 hours of teaching. Librarians support students who study a wide variety of subjects and while it is tempting to have a one size fits all approach to teaching information literacy we’ll discuss how over time we have learnt this isn’t always the best way. During this session we’ll discuss the various approaches we take within different subject areas, and we’ll also look at techniques we’ve adopted when teaching in large lecture theatres, techniques used in small group work and techniques for supporting students online. We’ll broadly theme this session into:•Back to basics tricks: Strategies we use that don’t involve technology which includes using props and paper based exercises.•Quizzes and Treasure hunts: How we have implemented fun quizzes and treasure hunts into inductions. •Online information Literacy tutorials: We’ll discuss our online tutorials and how they help support our learners online. There will be an opportunity during the masterclass for hand-on experience of some of the tricks and tools, along with lots of ideas attendees can take away and use in their own teaching.
<type>Conference Paper/Proceeding/Abstract</type><journal>CILIP Wales</journal><volume/><journalNumber/><paginationStart/><paginationEnd/><publisher>CILIP Wales</publisher><placeOfPublication>Aberystwyth</placeOfPublication><isbnPrint/><isbnElectronic/><issnPrint/><issnElectronic/><keywords/><publishedDay>10</publishedDay><publishedMonth>5</publishedMonth><publishedYear>2017</publishedYear><publishedDate>2017-05-10</publishedDate><doi/><url>https://archive.cilip.org.uk/cilip-cymru-wales/events/cilip-cymru-wales-conference-2017</url><notes/><college>COLLEGE NANME</college><department>Library Services</department><CollegeCode>COLLEGE CODE</CollegeCode><DepartmentCode>ILS</DepartmentCode><institution>Swansea University</institution><apcterm/><funders/><projectreference/><lastEdited>2023-02-09T10:34:12.5121287</lastEdited><Created>2018-05-14T09:23:08.5421106</Created><path><level id="1">Professional Services</level><level id="2">ISS</level></path><authors><author><firstname>Giles</firstname><surname>Lloyd-Brown</surname><orcid/><order>1</order></author><author><firstname>Suzanne</firstname><surname>Taylor</surname><order>2</order></author><author><firstname>Elen</firstname><surname>Davies</surname><orcid>0000-0002-3621-5308</orcid><order>3</order></author></authors><documents/><OutputDurs/></rfc1807> |
