Abstract: Field of the Invention[0001]The present invention relates to compounds suitable for use as semiconducting materials, particularly p-type semiconducting materials, especially as hole transporting materials, n-type semiconducting materials, especially as electron transporting materials or ambipolar type semiconducting materials that may be suitable hole transporting materials or electron transporting materials. The compound’s highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO) and lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (LUMO) can be tuned via chemical functionalization using appropriate donor and acceptor conjugated building blocks on the backbone. The compounds are anthanthrone derivatives substituted at the 4 and 10 positions and optionally at the 6 and 12 positions. Methods of making the compounds and their use as semiconducting materials, for example hole transporting materials in optoelectronic devices such as perovskite solar cells, is also described.
