Abstract: |
This article provides an analysis of recent evidence on the circumstances of single parent families, in relation to key conceptual debates on social justice. It explores this relation via four different angles: (i) the position of single parents in relation to other parents; (ii) the position of single parents in relation to their children; (iii) the position of children in relation to their single parents; (iv) the position of children of single parents in relation to other children. It argues for the value of this way of splitting the issues, in highlighting both the particular kinds of disadvantage and unfairness faced by single parents and their children, and wider issues about the place of family relations in our frameworks of social justice. |
