This chapter has three main parts. Part 1 looks at the very idea of 'doing' environmental philosophy, and distinguishes two contrasting ways in which this happens. In Part 2 I argue that commitments to (contestable) conceptions of 'nature' and 'culture', and the relation between the two, are inevitable - and a core part of any viable philosophical treatment of climate change. I also show how some dominant trends in recent philosophy can be seen as hindering an adequate working-through of such commitments. Part 3 weighs up the implications of the discussion as a whole for philosophical treatments of climate change - both in terms of their specific value, and their limitations. |
