Abstract: Novel Gd(III) carboxyalkylphosphonate nanocrystals were synthesized under mild hydrothermal conditions. Structural properties and 1H NMR relaxometric behaviour in aqueous solution as a function of the magnetic field strength were investigated, aiming to evaluate the local chemical environment of the paramagnetic centres and their interaction and affinity with water molecules.
