Abstract: This chapter deals with the portrayal of Macedonians on film. The ancient sources make Macedonian identity rather ambiguous between descriptions as barbarians and (particularly later under Alexander) the image of people whop spread Greek culture to the East. Modern film makers dealt with this problem in different ways, but the dilemma is often clearly visible and also reflects contemporary political and cultural concerns.
