Cocteau was particularly pleased at the critical reaction to Honegger's contribution to the collaborative work 'Les Mariés de la tour Eiffel' on which he worked with five members of Les Six. Despite their enthusiasm for this piece, the funeral march for a general eaten by a lion, their comments made it clear that they had not understood it. This article explores the reasons for their incomprehension and also the way that this piece links with various aspects of Cocteau's own aesthetic. |
