Handouts have been an inseparable part of any teaching approach for years. There are many different types of handouts including: comprehensive, gapped, summarized, etc.; and the question of which type is the most effective in learning and teaching has been discussed in educational communities for years. Each type has its own advantages and drawbacks. It is claimed, for example, that gapped lecture notes will encourage the students to attend lectures while the comprehensive notes are more useful to prepare for the exams. This paper is intended to compare the effectiveness of comprehensive lecture notes with that of gapped lecture notes in a case study applied on Master level Electrical Engineering students at Swansea University, UK. As most of the previous arts in this area lack to hear the students’ voices on the matter, a questionnaire have been designed to see which type is preferred by the students and why. |
