However, only recently has it begun to explore how the state ensures the public is protected from acts of medical malpractice, negligence and criminality. Against the background of a series of high-profile scandals, including the case of Dr Harold Shipman who murdered over 200 of his patients, this topical and authoritative book examines how the regulation of doctors has been modernised by reforms to the Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service and the introduction of the quality assurance process of medical revalidation. In doing so, it questions whether there is evidence to support the argument that revalidation serves the public interest by ensuring that individual doctors are fit to practise. Highlighting areas of good practice and areas for further research and development, the book is ideal for academics and postgraduates interested in medical sociology, socio-legal studies, medical law, medical education, health policy and related subjects.
<type>Book</type><journal/><volume/><journalNumber/><paginationStart/><paginationEnd/><publisher>Policy Press</publisher><placeOfPublication>United Kingdom</placeOfPublication><isbnPrint>9781447325444</isbnPrint><isbnElectronic>9781447325543</isbnElectronic><issnPrint/><issnElectronic/><keywords>Medical Regulation; Medical Risk; Medical Negligence; General Medical Council; Medical laws and legislation, Great Britain, Physicians Great Britain discipline, Regulatory practice,</keywords><publishedDay>26</publishedDay><publishedMonth>8</publishedMonth><publishedYear>2015</publishedYear><publishedDate>2015-08-26</publishedDate><doi/><url>https://policypress.co.uk/medical-regulation-fitness-to-practice-and-revalidation#book-detail-tabs-stison-block-content-1-0-tab3</url><notes>https://repository.lboro.ac.uk/articles/book/Medical_regulation_fitness_to_practice_and_revalidation_a_critical_introduction/9471611/1</notes><college>COLLEGE NANME</college><department>Criminology</department><CollegeCode>COLLEGE CODE</CollegeCode><DepartmentCode>CRIM</DepartmentCode><institution>Swansea University</institution><apcterm/><lastEdited>2022-02-08T16:09:51.7985949</lastEdited><Created>2016-09-02T12:03:47.8045541</Created><path><level id="1">Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences</level><level id="2">Hilary Rodham Clinton School of Law</level></path><authors><author><firstname>Marty</firstname><surname>Chamberlain</surname><orcid>0000-0001-6067-6561</orcid><order>1</order></author></authors><documents/><OutputDurs/></rfc1807> |
