Item Description: |

Grain refinement of Mg with Zr is an important industrial practice yet not well understood to optimise the addition of expensive Zr-based grain refiners. This work investigated and explained, the minimum Zr concentration necessary for columnar to equiaxed transition as the first step to optimal grain refinement. It also showed that grain refinement is achievable without invoking the peritectic reaction as popularly believed earlier. Forms the basis for the EPSRC supported grant EP/E00119X/1
|
