Abstract: Analyses of cell proliferation typically involve detailed, time lapse imaging of the cell population from which the life cycle of the cell can be tracked. In this paper we present a new approach that demonstrates quantitative descriptions of a growing cell colony through measurement of the cell division events rather than tracking of their whole life cycle. The technique is based on approaches taken in reliability engineering where statistical mathematics is used to predict the distribution in probability of success or failure. In this instance we consider successive cell division events as a temporal Poisson process.
