<p>This paper presented the first demonstration of distributed parametric amplification of communication signals in communication fibers. Prior to that, all work with parametric amplifiers was done with shorter fibers, and it was thought that they could not be used for distributed amplification. Our work dispelled that notion, and showed that the noise performance of distributed amplification was quite similar to the well-known distributed Raman amplification. The paper was accepted as is, a rare occurrence indicative of very high quality.</p> |
