Abstract: |
This chapter outlines a range of terrorists’ online activities. The chapter argues that the Internet has produced a number of changes in both terrorists’ objectives and their operations. Unlike the theory of new terrorism, however, the chapter does not attribute these changes to changes in the terrorist groups themselves. Rather, it attributes them to the changing environment in which the groups are operating. The chapter explains that it is important that counterterrorism strategies are evaluated in the light of these changes in order to ensure that they reflect the differences between offline and online dynamics. |
