Production of the first Bose-Einstein condensate near the surface of a permanently magnetised atom chip. Such chips reduce electrical power dissipation in experiments with ultracold atoms making portable integrated devices feasible. I contributed significantly to the understanding of the chip's microscopic magnetic surface structure, crucial for experimental success. |
