Item Description: Smart magnetorheological (MR) fluids have rheological properties that can be greatly and rapidly altered upon application of an external magnetic field. There is a wide range of applications in the aerospace and automotive sectors (clutches, dampers, suspensions, etc.) and biomedical robot blood and drug delivery simulations. This paper presents an original and novel computational framework for the numerical simulation of MR fluids, based on a combined lattice Boltzmann and discrete element formulation. The methodology is currently being implemented within the commercial multi-physics simulation system ELFEN developed by Rockfield Software Ltd. (j.rance@rockfield.co.uk).
