Item Description: |
This work is significant as it reports the first phase of a major R&D programme, commissioned by Rolls Royce, to investigate novel centrifugal casting techniques for highly reactive low superheat TiAl turbine blades. The capability for casting defect free high quality TiAl blades will improve future engine efficiency through significant weight reduction. Model development was carried out at Swansea University, experimental work at University of Birmingham, and validation was pursued jointly. This paper details the computational model and enhancements that enable capture of all the critical flow features of the process, and validation against high quality water experiments. |
