Item Description: |
Recently, our community has debated the efficiency of high-order methods compared to low-order ones. Some authors advocate high order while others strongly urge use of low-order approaches. This paper settles the discussion using operation counts (no runtime, no asymptotic work,...) for every aspect of the computation and each element type. Local and global operations are accounted for. Moreover, it also compares continuous and discontinuous approaches. This is crucial for new software development and was developed within a European Initial Training Network in collaboration with Free Field Technologies, recently bought by MSC Software Corporation (Nastran). |
