Abstract: This encyclopedia entry provides an overview of the recent policy direction of the Thai healthcare system. It describes the three major public health insurance schemes, and assesses the success of the reforms that introduced universal healthcare coverage in 2001-02. The entry summarises some of the research findings on the functioning of the UHC scheme undertake by the Health Insurance System Research Office with the participation of the two authors.
