Abstract: |
The chapter examines UK immigration policy in relation to the rights and well-being of asylum-seeking children, Welsh governance and the UNCRC. Attention is drawn to some key areas of incongruence between policy and children's rights and wellbeing, and we argue that these must be addressed if asylum-seeking children are to be able to fully enjoy the protection of Article 22 of the UNCRC. The chapter explores developments in policy and practice in the UK and Wales that have led to improvements in the treatment of asylum-seeking children and the chapter ends with a discussion of the potential opportunities and challenges for securing the rights of asylum-seeking children afforded by the Rights of Children and Young Persons (Wales) Measure 2011. |
